The Founding History of Studio Hertzberg

Hey, I'm Lea,

the founder of Studio Hertzberg.

Studio Hertzberg grew out of my love for fashion – and from the desire to be able to design things according to my own vision.

I have been working in the fashion industry for many years and have been self-employed for over 20 years. I have designed, produced, sold, and planned collections, and learned one thing above all: A brand is not built in a single day. It changes. You try things out, make decisions, discard them again, and over time, discover more and more clearly what you truly want to stand for.

In 2022, I founded Studio Hertzberg. With the desire to design feminine fashion that is modern, feels effortless, and accompanies women for a long time.

But Studio Hertzberg also had to find its own way first.

The search for the special dress

After following the classic path for a few years – designing, producing, and selling two collections a year – I increasingly lost the joy in it. At first, I thought it was the fashion industry itself. Perhaps I had simply chosen the wrong path.

After a long break, during which I didn't design anything new, it became clear to me: It wasn't fashion that no longer fulfilled me. I lacked the motivation to develop garments only to have them produced by the hundreds afterwards.

Because for me, the most beautiful thing about a small label is its uniqueness. The freedom to design special pieces, to work with exceptional fabrics, and to keep editions deliberately small. That is exactly where I wanted to return.

But it only clicked after a personal experience

The decisive thought did not come at my desk or while reflecting, but from a very personal experience.

For a wedding in 2025, I was looking for a dress that was special enough for that day – but still looked like me. Not too stiff, not overloaded, and not like a typical "event dress" that disappears into the closet after a single evening or in which I feel like I'm in a costume.

And above all, I didn't want to wear a dress that I would encounter on someone else at the same celebration.

I was looking for clean silhouettes, feminine shapes, and special fabrics. For fashion that stands out without being loud. Festive, but not costumed. Special, but still natural.

That is exactly where the idea for the new direction of Studio Hertzberg came from:

Limited-edition occasion wear for weddings, dinners, celebrations, and all those days that should be remembered as special.

Why I started over and why 2027 will be the proof of concept

Building your own label doesn't mean knowing all the answers from the start. I have developed collections, tried different paths, and made decisions that I would make differently today.

There were beautiful successes, but also collections that didn't develop as hoped. Fabrics, cuts, and ideas into which much time, money, and passion had flowed. Moments when I asked myself if it made sense to continue – especially in an industry where larger brands work with different budgets and possibilities.

At some point, it became clear to me: Studio Hertzberg didn't need to get bigger or louder. The brand needed to become clearer.

I no longer wanted to develop fashion just because a new season was starting. No large collections designed to cover as many trends and occasions as possible. And no selecting fabrics just because they are available in large quantities at any time.

I wanted to get back to what originally inspired me about fashion: special materials, strong cuts, and pieces that one remembers.

In 2027, I will launch the first small drops. Then it will show if you embrace the new concept and fall just as in love with these almost unique pieces as I have. And if not? Then I have still created something that finally felt completely right again.

The fabric determines the edition

Today, a Studio Hertzberg collection often begins with a fabric.

In northern Italy, I find selected materials from the environment of Italian fashion and haute couture houses: high-quality remnants and fabrics of which only a limited quantity remains. These are supplemented by carefully selected and certified materials.

Sometimes a fabric is enough for 50 dresses. Sometimes only for four.

That is exactly what makes every piece special. We do not simply reproduce when an edition is sold out. If the fabric is used up, the edition ends.

The fabric determines the edition – not the other way around.

Our styles are therefore crafted in deliberately small quantities: a maximum of 50 pieces per model and color. This creates fashion that is not seen everywhere and feels a bit like it was made just for you.

Designed in Berlin, made in Europe

Each model is created with a great deal of proximity to the product and a critical eye for cut, material, and fit.

Production takes place in small, selected businesses in Europe – including Portugal and Poland. My goal here is not to produce as much as possible, as quickly as possible. I want to build long-term partnerships and have only as many pieces made as fit a small edition.

Because for me, the value of a garment does not lie in a big logo. It lies in the fabric, its drape, a well-thought-out cut, and the feeling it triggers when worn.

Fashion for special days

Today, Studio Hertzberg stands for modern, feminine occasion wear with a clear perspective.

For dresses, jumpsuits, and two-pieces that can be worn to weddings, dinners, celebrations, and special evenings – without appearing stiff or over-styled.

For women who are looking for something special but still want to feel like themselves in it.

And for the small joy of not suddenly running into someone wearing your own dress at a party.

And this is just the beginning

Building a company while your own life is also changing is not always easy. In the meantime, I am not just a founder, but also a mother. Between designs, fabric samples, production agreements, and everyday family life, many things have become less predictable – at the same time, it is clearer to me today than ever what I want to spend my time on.

Studio Hertzberg is not meant to be just another fashion label.

I want to build a brand that has its own signature: modern, feminine, a little unexpected, and deliberately limited. A brand for special days – and for garments that are not forgotten after a single occasion.

I look forward to you accompanying Studio Hertzberg on this new path.
